# Selection

> Choose which matching items Profilarr searches first with selectors such as Lowest Score, and set how many it searches per run.

> Selection decides which [filtered](https://profilarr.com/deploy/upgrades/filtering) items get searched first. If you haven't built a filter yet, start with [Filtering](https://profilarr.com/deploy/upgrades/filtering).

Filtering narrows down what you want to upgrade, but that can still leave a large selection pool. Rather than picking from this pool randomly, you might want to start with low scoring files that need the most improvement, recently added movies you're keen to watch, or the largest files to try to save some disk space. The selector decides which of those matching items Profilarr searches first.

| Selector | Searches first |
| --- | --- |
| **Random** | Picks matching items randomly. |
| **Oldest** | Items added to Radarr or Sonarr earliest, not the oldest movies or shows. |
| **Newest** | Items added to Radarr or Sonarr most recently, not the newest movies or shows. |
| **Lowest Score** | Movies whose file has the lowest custom format score. For Sonarr, series with the lowest average score across all their episode files. Items without files count as 0. |
| **Size (Largest First)** | Items using the most disk space. For a movie, that is its file; for a series, all its episode files together. Zero or unknown sizes go last. |
| **Size (Smallest First)** | Items using the least disk space. For a movie, that is its file; for a series, all its episode files together. Zero or unknown sizes go last. |
| **Most Popular** | Movies with the highest TMDb popularity score. Sonarr has no popularity value, so this leaves series in their existing order. |
| **Least Popular** | Movies with the lowest TMDb popularity score. Sonarr has no popularity value, so this leaves series in their existing order. |
| **A-Z** | Titles in alphabetical order, ignoring leading punctuation and the words The, A, and An. |
| **Z-A** | Titles in reverse alphabetical order, ignoring leading punctuation and the words The, A, and An. |

## Count

**Count** decides how many [filtered](https://profilarr.com/deploy/upgrades/filtering) items Profilarr *selects* each run. For example:

- **Lowest Score** with a count of `5` searches the five lowest scoring items available.
- **Newest** with a count of `3` searches the three most recently added items available.
- **Random** with a count of `2` searches two randomly chosen items.

> **Warning:** Profilarr limits the upgrade count to avoid hammering your indexers with searches. The maximum depends on how often upgrades run. See [Scheduling](https://profilarr.com/deploy/upgrades/scheduling) for these limits.
